which came first, though? the building's paint job or the pop machine? and what happens if the soda vendor switches this mammajamma out with a green mountain dew machine?! then the building owner's skuh-rewed! i'm just sayin...

Cool pic!

Have you ever seen the ongoing collection of Detroit photos by Jim ("Dutch") from sweet-juniper dot com? If not, you should check them out. My current favorite is the Michigan Theater-turned-parking garage set.

Love this pic - and RC, we don't really get that here...at least not an RC machine. Coke and Pepsi empires!

And, you know you are from Detroit when you say Pop instead of Soda :) I thought you were sharing a pic of your dad....lol

Hope you are on a fun trip!

shanks--i would venture to guess that this building owner is dead. i'm just sayin...

sumo-THANKS! i'll totally check the link. i'm a big fan of michigan art. my grandfather was a painter that did a ton of stuff of and around detroit.

cryssyer-thanks for the well wishes. eh. the trip is just me visiting. no buffers of other family members or husband. so let's just say lots of reflection. but thanks!

Try, desperately, try to allow whatever happen to happen. Don't focus too much on one thing or another. Just garner the trip as an experience to be savored and bemused - not bad or good but as just is.

Of course, family suck at letting you be you... So good luck! :)

I never been to Detroit - there are many places I've yet to see.

I hope the visit ends on a positive note, and becomes one of those things that you're glad you did. Character building, you know?? And just think..... your support system is waiting for you as soon as you get home. Thats a nice feeling.

The picture reminds me of the bars, town halls and convenience stores in some small villages in my home province of Alberta. I am talking about more than 20 years ago but life doesn't change much in small villages.

Strange, how random pictures can bring back memories of things that I didn't even know I had bothered to store, in my mind, as a memory.
