Someone asked me once (almost annoyed), 'why do you like Death Cab For Cutie so much?'
Monday night is why.
Under a oddly crisp LA August night, I drank Ben Gibbard and the boys in. The air smelt of pot and Tag body spray and I felt the over 30s twinge once, when I got knocked by a drunk chick, but otherwise it rocked. Granted I've seen them 8 or 9 times, but this was different. I was like a proud mom who remembers 1997, when they rocked out for 30 of us in a tiny LA club. To now playing a near sold out Greek Theater.
So why do I like them so much?
They make no apologies for who they are. No need for boy mascara, manorexic phases, or fake Brit accents. Real. Electric. Honest.
So honest that seeing them play the song that highlighted Nancy's death was a little tough, but with the strong silent shoulder of my best friend, I was fine. Beyond fine.
Thanks PR.
And, they remind me that with hard work and consistency, anything is possible. Anything. So yeah. Suck on that.

Thank you for posting this. I'm a new fan ... I'll move onto older stuff once Plans is permanently tattoed into my brain. Such an incredible depth of emotion, and their songs say a lot without being wordy (unlike me!). Off to spend some time at you tube...
oh, and that song makes me cry for no good reason, I can't imagine how hard it is for you. anyway... *thumbs up*

I just watched the Subject Line Here DVD. You had me laughing my freaking ass off through your whole sketch. Everyone else was great too but you stole the show for me.

I have been hearing about this band from you and that other popular blog, I see I have to check them out! I had a similar experience with The Hooters - they had a couple of hits in the 80's and they were from the Philly area. I had seen them in high school in small gyms and bars that I snuck into. It was gratifying to see them on a big stage, but even more poignant knowing that I was there in the beginning...
Oh, and ditto about the DVD - you were the highlight and I watched it several times because it was just TOO funny :) Great job!

yeah, you on the DVD was AWESOME! My 13 year old daughter heard me laughing and asked me to rewind it so she could hear the whole story. She laughed so hard she nearly cried. Now anytime we hear someone say something funny, we look at each other and say "what?", "what?", "what?", "what?"
So everybody thinks we're crazy, but that's ok, because we know what we are talking about. :)
